LPAR

Logical Partition, an independently running operating system instance (IBM i, AIX, or Linux) on a physical Power server managed by PowerVM.

LPAR definitions generally do not migrate automatically between Power generations during a hardware refresh ... plan to recreate partitions on the new system's HMC rather than assuming an in-place carryover.
