The S822 (8284-22A) left IBM standard support on March 31, 2024. It is the 2-socket 2U Power8 box, it tops out at IBM i 7.4, and that release itself stops being supported on September 30, 2026.
The Power S822 (8284-22A) is the two-socket, 2U member of the Power8 scale-out line. Six-core processors run at 3.89 GHz and ten-core processors at 3.42 GHz, so a fully populated S822 reaches 20 cores in 2U ... which is exactly why so many of them are still carrying production IBM i and AIX workloads years after IBM stopped supporting them.
Where the S822 stands in 2026
IBM ended standard support for the 8284-22A on March 31, 2024. That date matters more than the generation does. An S814 sitting in the same rack has a different date (May 31, 2024), and an E870 in the row behind it has another one (October 31, 2024). If your maintenance plan treats Power8 as a single deadline, it is wrong about at least two of those machines.
Power8 end-of-service dates are set per machine type, not per generation. The spread across the line runs from March 2024 to July 2025, so verify the 8284-22A date specifically rather than applying one Power8 deadline to every box in the room.
