IBM Power 8 Expansion drawer

8286 5802: 12X I/O Drawer PCIe, SFF disk

5802 is the 12X I/O Drawer PCIe, SFF disk. Not listed for a Power 8 machine type.

An older 4U drawer with 10 PCIe slots and 18 drive bays for Power6 and Power7 servers. It does not attach to Power 8 scale-out servers.

Our sources do not list 5802 for a Power 8 machine type. Some sellers still list it for Power 8. Before you buy, confirm it against your exact machine type.

Midland's supported-model list covers Power6/Power7 and 8408-E8D systems, with no 8286 or 8284 model. IBM's S814/S824 and S822 Redbooks mention #5802 only as the previous-generation 12X drawer whose blind swap cassettes the EMX0 reuses.

Before you order 5802

An expansion drawer adds slots or drive bays when the server itself is full. It is often the difference between upgrading a Power 8 and replacing it.

Not sure which Power 8 you have? The Identify Your Power 8 page shows how to check. Collecting several parts for one quote? Use the Power 8 maintenance and sourcing vendor directory. Or look up another feature code.
